What are macros?

Tracking macros, also known as Flexible Dieting, is an advanced way of tracking calories. Macros is short for macronutrients, and there are three: protein, carbs, and fat. Macros are the pillars of calories, and if you are consuming calories, they are coming from protein, carbs, and/or fat.

Each macronutrient serves our bodies with a unique purpose, and we need all three to perform at our best - mentally and physically. When tracking calories alone, we aren’t able to ensure that we are consuming an appropriate ratio of all three macros.

Tracking macros is similar to Weight Watchers only in the sense that you are given a daily goal, and you can eat what you wish (within reason, of course) as long as you hit your goal each day. Our bodies recognize the quality of food, so it is important to keep your daily diet filled with 85% nutrient dense foods and 15% treats/favorites/etc. Flexible dieting is focused on portion control, and it’s meant to create balance so that weight-loss is sustainable for the long-term.
